AbilityOne Program
The AbilityOne program was launched in the 1930s and expanded in the 1970s. While the organizations that serve the disability community have evolved to meet the modern needs of the community, the program now needs to meet that level of modernization.
Sections 501 and 503 of the Rehabilitation Act
Sections 501 and 503 prohibit the federal government and contractors from discriminating against people with disabilities and requires employers to recruit, hire, promote, retain, and support them.
Small Business Administration Designation
We can strengthen America’s workforce by developing disability employment opportunities under the Small Business Administration.
One Percent Contracting Goal
A DoD 1% contracting goal has the power to create more than 20,000 new job opportunities for people with disabilities, including veterans and wounded warriors. We support a 1% contracting goal for the AbilityOne Program as a way to increase the availability of competitive integrated employment for people with disabilities and greatly expand the number of people with disabilities working and becoming self-sufficient.
